Awka, Anambra State In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully apprehended a major arms dealer engaged in the illegal trade of prohibited firearms within the state. The operation, which culminated in the arrest, was the result of weeks of intensive surveillance by dedicated operatives of the Command.

During the operation, a total of twenty-three automatic pump action guns and 625 live cartridges were seized from the suspects. The successful raid took place in Onitsha, where three individuals believed to be involved in the illicit arms trade were apprehended.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, expressed his commendation for the operatives involved in the operation, highlighting their dedication and professionalism. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who provided crucial instructions throughout the course of the operation.
The seized arms and ammunition pose a significant threat to public safety, and their removal from circulation marks a crucial step in curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms within the state. The police are actively expanding their investigation to identify any potential links to wider criminal networks and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
Speaking on the successful operation, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the commitment of the police force to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could aid ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. The Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to uphold the rule of law and protect the citizens from the dangers associated with illegal firearms and criminal activities.
