A 21- year-old man, Dayo Afolabi was on Wednesday brought before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth N1.8 million.
The defendant whose address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
He, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between July and Aug. 9 at Orile Imo/Idofin Oke Village, Owode- Egba in Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun alleged that Afolabi broke into the houses of the complainants, Mr Kareem Shefiu and Mrs Adedini Funmilayo with intent to commit felony.
He further said that Afolabi stole one aluminum door and frame valued at N60,000 belonging to Shefiu.
Olu-Balogun alleged that the defendant also stole cash and valuables worth N1.7 million belonging to Adedini.
He said the stolen items included N500,000 cash, a Samsung A07 mobile phone valued at N200,000 and a Techno Pop 10 valued at N170,000.
Other items are jewelries, wrist watch, boxers and singlets valued at N870,000.
According to Olu-Balogun, the defendant was apprehended by vigilante operatives on duty and was subsequently handed over to the police.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 390 (9), 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1 Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.K Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum, who must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.
Araba ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions
She adjourned the case until Aug. 14 for hearing.
