Man, 24, arraigned over alleged house breaking, theft

Ado-Ekiti, Jan. 29, 2026 (NAN) The Police in Ekiti, on Thursday, arraigned a 24-year-old man, Fasiku Pelumi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.

 

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing.

 

The police prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.14, 2026, at about 03:00 p.m in Ikole-Ekiti.

 

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant broke into the house of one Chief Ogundola Olawale.

 

He also alleged that the defendant stole bricklayer tools and cement valued at N150,000 belonging to the complainant.

 

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 325 and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

 

The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

 

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

 

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

 

She adjourned the case till Feb.18 for hearing.(NAN)
