The police, on Tuesday, charged a 25-year-old man, Adewale Femi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged conspiracy and stealing.
The defendant whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing of a she-goat.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offences on April 29, at Abekoko area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with others to steal a she-goat and other goods valued at N90,000, belonging to a yet-be-identified owner.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was consequently arrested by the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of section 295 and 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Defence counsel, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Olabanji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 11, for hearing. (NAN)
