Man, 25, docked over alleged malicious damage, assault

Okitipupa (Ondo State), April 1, 2026 (NAN) A 25-year-old man, Amos Odunyemi, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged malicious damage of plantain plantation worth N110,000.

The defendant, whose address and occupation were not given, is facing a four-count charge bordering on felony, assault, threat to life and malicious damage.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large, on Jan. 15 around 11.20 a.m. at Oke-Ikale in Akotogbo, Akotogbo Magisterial District, conspired to commit the offences.

Omoyeigha said that defendant, who had an undisclosed dispute with one Adebisi Emuro, entered his plantation and maliciously damaged the young plantains belonging to him.

He added that the defendant also threatened to kill the complaint, assaulted him by beating him and inflicted bodily harm on him with a cutlass.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene and are punishable under Sections 517, 355, 86 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with a surety in like sum.

Olanipekun added that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 17 for further hearing.(NAN)
