A 27-year-old man, Abayomi Azeez, was on Thursday arraigned before a Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, for allegedly stealing a mobile phone and beating up an onlooker.
Azeez pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and assault preferred against him.
Consequently, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two reliable sureties, who must be relatives.
Latunji added that the sureties must each possess a National Identification Number (NIN).
She adjourned the matter until Aug. 18, for hearing.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp Oluseye Akinola, had told the court that the defendant committed the crime sometime in May, at the premises of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akinola said that the defendant was arrested after allegedly stealing a Samsung AO7 valued at N222, 000 which belonged to one Edwin Olatokunbo.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant beat up one Gabriel Oyeyemi, who sighted him stealing the mobile phone, inflicting injury on his face in the process.
He said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 390 (9) and 351 of the Criminal Code cap 38 vol. ii laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN).
