The Police on Wednesday, arraigned a 30-year old man, Najib Umar, at a Kano Sharia Court over alleged breach of trust and cheating.

Najib, who resides at Fagge Quarters, Kano, is facing a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and mischief.

The Prosecutor, Insp Abdullahi Wada, told the court that the complainant, Abubakar Haruna, a resident of Rimin Kebe Quarters, reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station, Kano, on July 10.

Wada said that Haruna gave Umar some yards of leather carpet worth N100,000 with an agreement that he should sell the carpet and remit money to him.

The prosecutor said that the defendant had only remitted N30,000 to the complainant since he finished selling the carpet.

“He converted the remaining money into his personal use, and all efforts to get the money have proven abortive,” he said.

Wada said that the offences contravened Sections 202 and 206 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, admitted Umar to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one reliable surety who must be a blood relation.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 5 for summary trial.(NAN) (
