Ile-Ife (Osun), Jan 16,2026(NAN)The Police in Osun on Friday, arraigned a 30-year-old man, Abiodun Kazeem, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for alleged N1.2 million fraud
Kazeem, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing, offences that contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired to commit fraud and steal the property of Orowale Gbenga sometime in 2025 at Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi further alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected ₦250,000 and 90 litres of diesel, valued at ₦112,000, under the pretense of using a timber lorry to load logs of wood at Araromi Oke-Odo forest via Ile-Ife, but failed to do so.
The defendant is also accused of stealing several items from the timber lorry, including: N250,000 in cash, N90 litres of diesel (₦112,000), Monkey jack valued at ₦130,000,Winch and rope costing ₦500,000, and two winch rods valued at ₦20,000
According to the prosecutor, the defendant also allegedly stole one wheel spanner worth N16,000, set of spanners worth N13,000, 150amp battery valued at N150,000, and complete electrical wires worth N27,000
The total value of the stolen property, according to the prosecutor, is ₦1,128,000, all belonging to Orowale Gbenga, the complainant.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Adebayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo added that the surety must be a blood relative, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and have an address verified by the prosecutor.
She further stated that the surety must present a three-year tax clearance certificate along with three recent passport photographs as part of the bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 10 for hearing.(NAN)
