A 32-year-old man, Godwin Udoka, on Monday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged theft of company’s items worth N1.2 million.
The defendant, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on charges bordering on stealing and breach of peace
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Friday Maneh, told the Court that the defendant committed the offences on March 23, at about 1:30 p.m. at the Olorunsogo area of Ijanikin in Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant stole some items worth N1.2 million belonging to a company called FG Motors Nig. Ltd.
He said that the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace, by abandoning a trailer owned by the company.
“He was later caught by the people and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A J Aina, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He held that one of the sureties must be a company director.
The court adjourned the case until May 11, for mention. (NAN)
