Man, 34, in court for alleged possession of Indian hemp

Ado-Ekiti, March 27, 2026(NAN) A 34-year-old man, Omatete Wale, on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of India hemp.
Wale, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of possession of Indian hemp.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 24 at 3.00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi said that the police caught the defendant with  weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, an illicit drug.
He said that the defendant was arrested and taken to the station for prosecution.
Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
Defence Counsel, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant her client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to May 5 for mention.(NAN)
