Man, 41, docked over alleged N65m fraud

A 41-year-old man, Jibola Ojewuyi, appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday over alleged N65 million fraud.

Ojewuyi, who resides at Alalubosa Government Reservation Area in Ibadan, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in January 2021 in Ibadan.

Opaleye said that the defendant obtained the sum of N65 million from the complainant, Mr. Adebambo Ilori, with the claim of investing it in the mushroom business but failed to do so.

“The defendant collected the N65 million from the complainant through Eaglevistal Agro Allied Business under the pretense of investing in mushroom businesses for exportation,” the prosecutor said.

Opaleye said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner with a Certificate of Occupancy, while the other surety must be a blood relative.

She adjourned the case until July 9, for reference. (NAN)
