A 43-year-old man, Kingsley Chukwudebelu, on Thursday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged N1.1 million fraud.
Kingsley, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, fraud, and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Simon Njue, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 24 at No. 55A Pipeline Rd, off Ile-Ibadan Bus-Stop area of Lagos.
Njue alleged that the defendant collected the N1.1 million from the complainant, Mr Asehon David, to supply 90 cartons of tiles, and 18 bags of cement, but failed to do so.
He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
Njue also alleged that the defendant breached the peace when he failed o supply the items and refused to refund the complainant’s money.
He said the offences contravened Sections 168(d), 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 168(d) stipulates two years jail term for breach of peace, Section 287 prescribes three years for stealing, while Section 314 provides 15 years for fraud.
The Magistrate, Miss FR Ogunkoyode, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 21 for mention.(NAN)
