Ibadan, Feb. 19, 2026 (NAN) Mr Qudri Abacha, a 44 year-old man, on Thursday appeared before a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, for allegedly beating up a police officer.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat to life, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on Feb. 16, at about 1.30 p.m., at Daleto St, Mokola in Ibadan. Oyo State.
Ayeni alleged that the defendant, attacked one Abdulwaliu Esuola, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) by strangling his neck with his uniform collar.
He added that the defendant had earlier threatened one Mrs Funke Johnson with broken bottle and sticks.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 356 and 323 of the Criminal Code cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Akintayo added that sureties must be relatives of the defendant and each must provide an evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State government.
Then, she adjourned the case until April 6 for hearing. (NAN)
