Man, 56, docked for alleged clothes, perfume fraud

One Emmanuel Adedayo, who allegedly fraudulently obtained clothes and packets of perfumes worth N127, 000, on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretenses and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in Feb. 2020 at No. 1, Martins St., Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos State.

Ekhueorohan alleged that Adedayo collected trousers, T-shirts and packets of perfumes, all worth N127, 000, from one Mr. Ukwuoma Ibeagbu.

“The complainant, Ibeagbu, gave Adedayo the clothes and packets of perfumes to for, after selling them.

“Adedayo was arrested after several attempts by the complainant to get his money or property back,” Ekhueorohan said.

The prosecutor said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 prescribes 15 years’ jail term for obtaining money by false pretenses.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Sadiq Bello, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Bello adjourned the case until Jan. 20, 2022 for trial. (NAN)
