A 62-year-old man, Olawale Opaje, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly defrauding a man of N1.4million.
Opaje, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at No.2 Community Avenue, Elewedu, Abule Ijoko, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected N1.4million with the pretext of selling a Sienna bus to the complainant, Ajani Abayomi.
“The defendant converted the money to personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between them,” the prosecutor alleged.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390 and 419(a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until June 30, for further hearing. (NAN)
