Abuja, Jan. 22, 2026 (NAN) The police have arraigned Ebenezer Opara before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly obtaining N15 million from a land buyer under the pretext of selling a plot of land.
Opara is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Udo Okokon, alleged that the defendant and another person at large, with intent to defraud, committed the offences sometime in December 2024 in the FCT.
Okokon said Opara obtained N15 million from the complainant, Edeh Gabriel, through his company’s account but failed to sell the land and did not refund the money.
He further alleged that the defendant collected the sum for a plot of land in the FCT, a representation he knew was false.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 79 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Abubakar Sadiq granted Opara N5 million bail with one reliable surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Sadiq also ordered that the surety should present his appointment and confirmation letters, and adjourned the case until March 5 for hearing. (NAN)
