The Police, on Thursday, arraigned Oluwatosin Olaniyi, 33, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos State, over alleged cultism and unlawful possession of firearm.
Olaniyi is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession of a firearm and membership of an unlawful society.
The Prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere told the court that the defendant and others still at large on June 1, at Festac Town, Lagos, allegedly committed the offences.
She said that the defendant was found in possession of a pistol loaded with one cartridge without lawful authority.
The police further alleged that the defendant had, since 2023, belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, a proscribed unlawful society, at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.
The offences, Ikhayere said, contravened Sections 41, 298(3) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Lateef Owolabi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with conditions attached.
The case was adjourned until July 30, for further hearing.(NAN)
