Berlin, March 17, 2026 (Xinhua/NAN) A 28-year-old man has been arrested after attacking two people with an axe at a busy train station in Berlin, following the theft of 20 euros, police said Tuesday.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at Kottbusser Tor station, located in the city’s Kreuzberg district.
According to authorities, the suspect initially targeted a 41-year-old woman who was holding 20 euros note on the platform.
After grabbing the cash, the woman’s 38-year-old companion confronted the suspect and his 24-year-old associate, reportedly threatening them with a knife.
The situation quickly escalated when the suspect produced an axe and attacked both victims.
The male victim sustained facial injuries but initially declined medical treatment, police said.
The two suspects fled the scene but were apprehended shortly afterward by officers.
Police later recovered the axe from a nearby bin, though the stolen money has not been found.
Kottbusser Tor station, a major transport hub in Kreuzberg, has long been known as a hotspot for crime, particularly կապված drug-related activity, according to local authorities. (Xinhua/NAN)
