Man docked for failing to produce son in court for trial

A 50-year-old man, Rafiu Ayantayo, who stood as surety for his son, Biodun, was docked on Thursday in an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan, for allegedly failing to produce him in court for trial.

The police charged Ayantayo with perverting the course of justice.

The police had charged Biodun with housebreaking and theft.

The prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that Rafiu failed to produce him in court on March 26, as promised.

Ibrahim said Rafiu committed an offence contrary to Section 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Mrs. Kausarat Ayofe, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Ayofe held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until June 4 for a hearing. (NAN)
