The police on Wednesday, charged a 21-year-old man, Umar Aliyu, before an FCT Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp, over alleged theft and causing hurt.
Aliyu of no fixed address, is standing trial on charges bordering on theft and causing hurt.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor Bankole Babatunde told the court that two complainants, Mr Isyaku Mohammed and Mr Abdulsalam Yusuf of Utako, Abuja jointly reported the matter at the Jabi Police Station on July 6.
Babatunde alleged that on the same date, the defendant attacked Mohammed and forcefully collected his itel phone value unknown.
He said that the first complainant (Mohammed) went to the ITF office Utako branch and reported, an ITF personal went to meet the defendant.
Babatunde said in the process the defendant violently hit the personal on his right ear, inflicting injury on him and threatening him with a long sharp object.
The defense counsel Olumide Bamigbade, orally apply for the bail of the defendant, based on his not guilty plea.
The prosecutor object to the application of the defense counsel, he presented to the court the sharp object use by the defendant to threaten and forcefully collect people’s properties.
However, Bamigbade told the court that the case is not yet prove, but when it is prove, and the court determines the case against the defendant, then he has committed the offence.
He said that the defendant is presumed to be innocent until proven otherwise.
Babatunde prayed that the judgement is left at the sole discretion of the court.
He said, the offence contravenes section 238 and 240 of the penal code.
Magistrate Ramlatu Yusuf, granted the application of the defense, admitting the defendant to bail to a sum of N300,000 with two sureties each.
Yusuf ordered that the sureties must be a civil servant of level 7.
The court adjourned the case until Aug 25, for hearing. (NAN)
