FOR the fourth time, Lumen Christi International High School (LCIHS), Uromi, Edo State, has won the Augustus Bandele Oyediran award for producing the best aggregate result in the May/June 2014 WASSCE.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Jide Adejuyigbe presented the award to the school, during the formal opening ceremony of 53rd annual meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) held on Thursday, in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The LCIHS had earlier won the same award in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2014.
Speaking during the ceremony, a non-council member representing Nigeria on Board of Trustees of WAEC Endowment Fund, Dr U.B. Ahmed said the major objective of the Council endowment fund is to support awards for outstanding performances by candidates in the various Countries.
Speaking with Vanguard on the feat, LCIHS Principal, Rev. Father Theophilus Itaman attributed it to the mission statement and philosophy of the school.
According to Itaman, the school is aimed at providing the highest possible academic growth for each learner, encourages fair competition but discourages unhealthy competition especially that which will put people down.
He added that the school’s mission statement and philosophy include fulfilling the Church’s mission as teacher, sanctifiers and leader, as well as meeting the growing and expressed needs of the people for post-Primary Institutions with emphasis on moral value education.
Meanwhile, Governor Olusegun Mimiko who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, in his address warned against any form of examination malpractices by students writing the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) across the state.
Mimiko, who reiterated that his administration has zero tolerance for any form of examination malpractice, warned that nobody would be spared if caught during the examination in the state.
According to him, his administration had set-up, an examination ethics and disciplinary committee to handle reported cases and other forms of academic fraud, adding that a desk officer had been appointed for all activities of exam ethics marshals in the state.
