Festac Weekly (FW), a media organisation has honoured 40 women in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area (AOLGA) of the state for their influence and contributions in the development of the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the women were given awards at an event organised by FW on Thursday in Lagos.
The event tagged, “Amuwo Influential 50: Celebrating the African Woman” was the fourth edition of the annual awards.
According to Mr Yomi Adejumo, Convener of Amuwo-Odofin Influential 50, the awards were predicated on the recipients outstanding track records in development of the community.
“This fourth edition is to acknowledge and appreciate the role women play in the development of our community,” he said.
Adejumo urged the awardees not to rest on their oars but to continue their good works in the community.
He urged Amuwo Odofin residents to continue doing their best for the community, bearing in mind that wherever they reside is home.
Some of the recipients included Mrs Opeyemi Buraimoh, Mrs Bimpe Doherty, Rev. Mrs Ngozi Osuji, Mrs Kehinde Seriki, Mrs Funmilayo Oladimeji and Efe Anaughe.
Others were Mrs Modupe Saanu, Mrs Bunmi Alawode, Mrs Folami Abisola, Mrs Kate Banjoko and Mrs Jemila Ofoegbu-Oboh, Pastor Mrs Ruth Iwunze.
Mrs Dorothy Effiom, Mrs Eunice Bassey, Mrs Felicia Okuh and Adaku Nkwocha also received awards.
One of the awardees, Mrs Bimpe Doherty, Special Adviser of Education, AOLG said though people from several ethnic groups lived in the community, it was a peaceful place to live because of the cooperation.
“We have always been classified as one of the best local governments.
“We are different people coming together to make Amuwo Odofin what it is today and we will continue to grow,” she said.
Also, Rev. Mrs Ngozi Osuji, who was awarded for her influence and contributions, called for peace in diversity within the community.
Another recipient, Mrs Ify Udoka, Chief Security Officer (CSO), 6th Avenue, Festac Town, however said more hoodlums needed to be pulled off the streets. (NAN)
