Awka, Jan.13, 2026 (NAN)Mrs Pauline Okoli, a Registered Midwife/Nurse, in charge of Manaria Osonwa Primary Health Centre (PHC), has urged Obunagu-Amikwo residents in Awka to effectively utilise the health centre provided for them for healthy living.

Okoli made the call in an interview with the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Obunagu-Amaikwo, Awka,  in Awka South Local Government Area LGA of Anambra on Tuesday.

She said that the health  centre was built by an indigenous son of the community, Mr Onuora Osonwa in memory of his late mother, Esther Osonwa and handed over to the state government on April 29, 2025.

Okoli identified some of the medical services provide at the centre to include primary medical care, elderly care, and immunisation of children from 0 to 59 months of age.

Others are antenatal and delivery, postnatal care, laboratory services, treatment of minor ailment and injuries, family planning and referrals.

She said that people of Obunagu- Amaikwo and its environs are not maximising the fully equipped health centre and urged them to care for their health now that the facility is at their doorstep.

“We have recorded only 15 deliveries since 2023 that the  centre started in spite of having reasonable medical services to offer to members of the public.

“We have modern medical tools, qualified personnel and operate in a friendly environment to assure healthy living and make referrals if need arise.

“I expect high patronage considering the population of people in the area.

“So, I call on the people to take their health check more seriously in 2026,” she said.

Okoli appealed to the state government not to relent in their support in ensuring quality healthcare services and for the provision of constant water and electricity supply.

She commended the management of  Manaria Osonwa Foundation who in spite of handing over the centre to government, still support the facility in providing quality medical services  with financial support.    (NAN)
