Motosport adds spark to Ilara Mokin festival

One of the biggest motorsports promoters in the county, Work and Play, added colour and fun to the 2020 New Yam festival in Ilara-Mokin, a locale in Ondo State, last weekend, with its racing spectacle around the newly constructed on-road and off-road courses.

The exhibition race, aimed at spicing up the community’s new yam festival, attracted drivers from last year’s premium event.
Argo Raak, the 2019 winner of the off-road race at the opening of the race track which is an extension of Smokin’ Hills Golf Course, was on hand for the race and so was Jeep ambassador on the track Kingsley Uwatse, as well as 2017 winner of the on-road race  Antonio Sandouk.
CEO of Work and Play Adeoye Ojuoko said the aim was to continue to build growing interest and fan base for the sport around the country, especially around the serene community which has hosted a number of events by the group over the last couple of years.
“This community has hosted on-road and off-road races with top race drivers across the country attending, which culminated in our building the first off-road track at Elizade Smokin’ Hills Resort in Ondo state, and has been attested to be one of the most challenging in the country.”
He added that last weekend’s assembly of top motorsports racers in Ilara -mokin was a way of showing support for the local new yam festival called ‘Ijeshu Festival’,as
Work and Play also added the Pounded Yam Challenge.
“Our long term plan incorporates this sort of partnerships, and Ilara having been a great host to our activities deserve to earn our partnership,” Ojuoko said.
Ojuoko further said the group has had to cancel most of the activities on its calendar, due to COVID-19 but hopes to get racers back on track later in December with the hosting of its flagship event, the Ondo Auto Rally.
The group also received accolades from the representatives of the Ondo State government for its part in supporting, helping sustain local festival and driving internal tourism to the state.
