Abuja, Oct. 21, 2025 (NAN) The Federal Government says the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Document will highlight the gains of investing in climate change adaptation and provide a win-win scenario for all Nigerians.
Mr Mahmud Kambari, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, said this on Tuesday in Abuja at a Technical Review Workshop for NAP document for Nigeria.
Kambari who was represented by Dr Iniobong Abiola-Awe, the Director of Climate Change in the ministry said that an adaptation financing strategy has also been developed, identified and proposed for full funding across adaptation planning.
“A monitoring and evaluation framework has also been developed which will support in tracking progress made by the adaptation planning and will also ensure that we move in the right direction in line with global best practices.
“As Nigeria’s NAP document is being finalised, It provides a holistic identification of potential costs of inaction and also the loss it will bring to Nigeria as a whole.
“The National adaptation process is currently to ensure that Nigeria’s climate change, is taking action to prepare and adjust within the context of the current effects of climate change and its predicted impacts in the future.
“The plan is currently supported by the Green Climate Fund and the United Nations Environment Programme, is expected to build on the first three identified massive areas in the National Adaptation Strategy Plan of Action, which was done a few years back,” Kambari said.
He expressed optimism that at the end of the workshop, the document will be enriched and provide positioning and submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. (NAN)
