Mr. Mohammed Alkali, member representing Lafia North at the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, has called for collaboration with youths in his constituency to ensure better representation.

Alkali made the call on Tuesday at a one-day constituency outreach in Lafia, organized by an NGO, Young Leaders Network (YLN).

The lawmaker commended the organizers of the outreach saying it provided and opportunity for a robust interface and engagement with his constituents, especially the youth.

According to him, the youth are the live wire of every society and  should be factored into every facet of governance for development to thrive.

He, therefore, urged them to always reach out to him with ideas and issues that would enhance his performance as their representative.

Alkali, who used the outreach to reel out his achievements at the State Assembly and his constituency, also said that inputs from constituents were revealing and insightful.

“The engagement has been very informative and educative. I look forward to more engagements like this with more participants,” he said.

The lawmaker then suggested that the outreach be replicated across the state to bride the gap between legislators and their constituents to enhance good governance.

Speaking earlier, Mr Umar Ibrahim, Program Officer of YLN, said the essence of the outreach was for citizens especially youths, to interface and support democratic structures by being law abiding.

Ibrahim said that the youths play key and vibrant role in democracy by entrenching peace.

“We must come up with initiatives that will change the narrative on how things are done in this country and we must take responsible steps.

“One way is by engaging critical stakeholders like our lawmakers,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants at the forum were drawn from the six electoral wards in the constituency.(NAN)
