Mrs. Laraba Shoda, President, National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS), has warned the public against a group of women posing as executives of the council.
Shoda gave the warning in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
“It has been brought to the notice of the Headquarters of NCWS that some women are impersonating as national officers of the council.
“They call themselves Southwest Zone, and are writing letters to state governments inviting them for programmes in the name of the council.
‘“This is illegal and unconstitutional.
‘“The NCWS has only one board of trustees in the country and we do not have zonal bodies, branches, chapters, wings or forums.
‘“We only have the National Executives, headed by the National President, the state branches, headed by state presidents and the LGA chapters, headed by Chapter presidents,” the NCWS president explained.
She therefore, said no other body had the right to use the council’s name, logo or letterhead, to write letters to anyone, organizations, government or private sector or individuals for programmes..
She said doing so amounted to impersonation and deceit
“Such letters that do not originate from duly elected presidents and are appropriately signed, should be disregarded.
“Unless such letters are in collaboration with the council and duly signed by the National President, State president or local government president as the case may be,” she said.
Shoda also said that past NCWS executives were not permitted to sign any document with official NCWS letterheads at any level.
“NCWS does not operate regional or zonal levels, anyone doing so is contravening the councils constitution and destroying our unity and peace,” she added. (NAN)
