Bauchi, Feb. 4, 2026 (NAN) The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated newly constructed fire service station to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, to address fire related incident.
Uba Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development, said this on Wednesday during the handing-over of the facility at the Gubi Campus of the university.
He implored the university to own the facility and other projects delivered by the commission.
Ahmadu, who commended the commission for the project, said President Bola Tinubu’s magnanimity has continued to support NEDC and other development agencies to make such project a reality.
“I urge the university community to take this facility as their own because in doing that, the government gets the reassurance that monies are not wasted and they truly appreciates the effort of the government and the valuable efforts of NEDC.
“On behalf of the ministry, the commission, the house of representatives committee under NEDC and to the service and benefit of humanity, commission this edifice,” he said.
Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of the commisdion, said the fire station was designed with offices, tower, truck bay, one fire truck, water reservoir, among others.
He said the project would save lives and property in case of fire outbreaks within the campus, and urged the university to ensure effective utilisation of the facility.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, lauded the gesture, adding that it forged a vital shield for the university, the host communities, and the state at large.
Represented by Dr Dauda Bakum, University Librarian, Garba said described the gesture as a testament of the Federal Government’s commitment to safety, resilience and sustainable development in the region.
Meanwhile, the visiting minister and NEDC team inpected the ongoing construction of Government Senior Secondary School, Bauchi.
Alkali said the school was designed with an administrative block, 12 classrooms, two 100-bed capacity hostels, two number of three bedroom staff quarters, and eight two-bedroom staff quarters.
Other projects included a 50-student capacity ICT centre, 130-student capacity library, a laboratory, perimeter fence, gate, water facilitied, among others. (NAN)
