In pursuance of the national policy on renewable energy and energy efficiency, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued three windows for grid connected renewable energy projects in the country.

“The three windows created are in line with regulatory mandates established in 2015 by NERC,” according to data obtained by Quick News Africa from the federal ministry of power.

The first window is the net-metering for projects with very small capacities below 1 megawatt, while the second window is the feed-in tariff for projects with capacities up to 5 megawatts of solar power.

It also includes wind power projects of 10 megawatts, biomass power projects of 10 megawatts, and small hydro based power projects of 30 megawatts.

The third window is for power projects with capacities above these thresholds.

NERC said all projects would be subjected to competitive tender and will be procured through the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) Plc.
