Women in Education, Advocacy and Developmental Initiative (WEADI), an NGO, donated Braille educational learning materials to the FCT School for Blind Children, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Presenting the materials, its Executive Director, Dr. Regina Omo-Agege, said the donation aimed at assisting the children with quality education and complementing the efforts of the FCT Administration.

She said the NGO regularly identified the needs of the poor and the vulnerable in the society and supported them in whatever way it could.

Omo-Agege assured the school of more assistance as the donations made on Wednesday resulted from the NGO’s humanitarian desires.

The NGO’s Director of Communications, Mrs. Mute Olori, said in her remarks that it was committed to reaching out to the visually-impaired as most of them were neglected by society.

She added that the NGO organization would also be creating awareness on the dangers of violence and abuses in homes and in schools as the increasing number of such cases had become worrisome.

“Abuse and violence are worldwide issues today and tales of woes from recent cases among young people in Nigeria today have opened our eyes to know that we have ignored the issue for a long time.

“It is time to look at the issues, teach the children what abuse and violence is; also teach them when to speak out when abused and who they should speak to,’’ she said.

Receiving the materials, Mrs. Rose Ngunan, Head Teacher of the school, appreciated the NGO for the donation, and said the materials would encourage the children to learn.

Ngunan called on parents not give up on children with disability, but to encourage them by giving them education. (NAN)
