The Presidency has cancelled the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

According to a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the cancellation is as a result of the Lake Chad Basin meeting which is also scheduled to hold on February 28, 2018.

“The meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will not hold on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

“This is due to the participation of President Muhammadu Buhari and a significant number of ministers at the High-Level Meeting of the International Conference on Lake Chad Basin, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, for the better part of that day,” Adesina noted in a terse statement made available to State House correspondents.

The Lake Chad basin countries are comprised of Chad, Niger, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, Sudan, Algeria, and Libya, where insurgent crisis and water shortages has posed challenges to over 17million population bordering the area.

Leaders from the region are expected to converge in Abuja, where far reaching decisions will be taken concerning the development of the basin.
