Benin City, February 17, 2024 – The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has applauded the youth league for its captivating and rewarding performances, highlighting its potential to nurture budding talent and elevate Nigerian football.
Emeka Inyama, chairman of the youth league, expressed his satisfaction with the league’s progress in a conversation with NPFL media. He underscored the achievements attained during the regional playoffs, citing them as evidence of the league’s effective direction.
Inyama emphasised that the youth league’s inception was purposeful, aiming to bridge the gap between grassroots and professional football while nurturing young talents for future success in the main NPFL. He commended the execution of the league’s objectives, noting the seamless coordination between youth and professional football.
“The NPFL Youth League has been created to create synergy between grassroots football and professional football, between youth football and those who will grow into those in the main NPFL,” Inyama remarked.
He further reiterated the commitment of Gbenga Elegbeleye, emphasising the program’s longevity and its integral role in advancing Nigerian football. Inyama highlighted the upcoming playoffs final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, featuring prominent clubs such as Remo Stars, Rangers, Rivers United, Plateau United, and Katsina United in the inaugural edition.
“It is going to be exciting as we will see the best of youth football that has never been seen, the best of youth football in the country, bringing together the stars of tomorrow as well as football scouts who will work with the technical committee of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to continue where they stopped in the zonal playoffs to identify outstanding players in the competition,” he added.
The NPFL’s endorsement of the youth league reflects a collective effort to foster talent development and elevate the standard of football in Nigeria, positioning the country for future success on the global stage.
