A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered that four vagrants: Alex Akakpu, Peter Dheno, Emmenuel Abila, and Abdulahi Salisu, be given six strokes of the cane each, for constituting public nuisance.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, handed down the punishment after the convicts pleaded guilty to a count charge levelled against them, and begged for leniency.
Akakpu, 20, Dheno, 20, Â Abila, 20, and Salisu, 25, of no fixed addresses, were arraigned for constituting public nuisance within Karmo.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that the Police on Feb.3, about 10 p.m. raided a black spot around Ezumezu in Karmo, and arrested the convicts.
He said that the convicts were constituting nuisance and disturbing the people living within the area.
The prosecutor said that the Police had earlier warned the convicts to stop constituting nuisance, but they refused.
Zannah added that during Police investigations, the convicts could not give satisfactory account of themselves.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 198 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
