The Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) announced on Tuesday in Akure that the head coach of the team, Samuel Abimbola has been sacked.
Akin Akinbobola, Head of the Technical Committee of ODSFA told Newsmen in a press conference that the team has been performing below expectation of the agency.
Sunshine Stars had 21 points from 15 matches and were 12th on the Nigerian Professional Football league (NPLF) Table.
According to Akinbobola, efforts to appoint new coach were in progress, while Napoleon Aluma, the assistant coach of Sunshine Stars would take charge of the team for the main time until the new coach would be announced.
Akinbobola had noted that salaries of the technical committee of Sunshine Stars had also been slashed into half.
“The present position of Sunshine Stars is not the dream of the state.
“The technical committee saw it wise to part company with the head coach of the team.
“I announce that with immediate effect, Samuel Abimbola seizes to be the coach of Sunshine Stars FC.
“Napoleon Aluma will temporarily take charge until the appointment of the appointment of the new coach and efforts to appoint new coach are in progress,” Akinbobola said.
The technical committee also said that Sunshine Queens also had a mandate to qualify for the coming Women premier League that would be starting next season.
Wemimo Matthew, Head Coach of Sunshine Queens was redeployed to ODSFA Central Academy while her assistant, Oluwole Ajayi would take charge of the team. Sunshine Queens currently placed sixth in the Group B of Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) with 12 points from 9 matches.
Dele Ologbese, Secretary, ODSFA said that he did not receive any letter of resignation from the former Coach of Sunshine Stars, Samuel Abimbola contrary to reports in the media that the coach had resigned.
