Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has called for collective efforts by stakeholders to address the challenges being faced by Nigerian workers.
Sulaiman said this on Wednesday in a statement to mark the 2024 Workers Day in Abuja.
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the resilience and sacrifices of the workforce, which serves as the foundation of the nation’s progress.
He said there was the need to build a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria where the contributions of every worker are valued and recognized.
“I join leaders across the country in celebrating the hard work and dedication of Nigerian workers in all sectors on the occasion of Workers’ Day 2024.
“As we observe this special day, we pay tribute to the significant contributions of Nigerian workers in driving economic growth, fostering social stability, and shaping a brighter future for all.
“Your dedication and industrious spirit are instrumental to our nation’s success; I call on labor unions and organizations to address the challenges faced by the workforce collaboratively,” he said.
The DG reaffirmed NILDS’ dedication to advancing policies and legislation that support fair labour practices, protect workers’ rights, and facilitate job creation and career development.
He said that the Institute was working on plans to strengthen the capacity of members of the Committee on Employment, Labour, and Productivity at the National Assembly.
“The workshop is expected to take place in May, with the aim of enhancing the committees’ understanding of labour laws and employment relations,” he said.
Sulaiman thanked all Nigerian workers for their commitment and dedication to their duties. (NAN)
