The Federal Government has confirmed the arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami(SAN), who disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday, revealed that Kanu was arrested and brought back to Nigeria on Sunday.

Malami revealed that the arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and Interpol.

He further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.

Nnamdi Kanu became a fugitive after he jumped bail granted him in April 2017 by a federal high court sitting in Abuja, and flouted all the conditions given to him by the court, including a ban on public speaking.

Kanu had, during an interview in October 2018, claimed that he was granted conditional bail to be “caged” along with the secessionist group.

The IPOB leader subsequently went into hiding, but continued his agitations using guerilla tactics.
