Nobel Laureates to receive awards in home countries due to pandemic – Organisers

The Nobel Foundation says Nobel laureates will receive their awards in their home countries in the Dec. 10, ceremony in Stockholm because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The foundation said on Thursday that the ceremony would  “hopefully have local audience present’’.

This year’s laureates will be announced from Oct. 4 to Oct. 11.

“The laureates will receive their Nobel Prize medals and diplomas in their home countries.

“These presentation events will be woven together with a prize award ceremony at the Stockholm City Hall on the Nobel Day, Dec. 10.

“Hopefully, the ceremony will have a local audience present,’’ the organizers said in a statement.

“Uncertainty about the course of the pandemic and international travel possibilities is the reason why the 2021 laureates will receive their medals and diplomas in their home countries,’’ Nobel Foundation Executive Director Vidar Helgesen explained.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is still keeping open the possibility to welcome laureates in Oslo, the decision will be announced in mid-October, the foundation added.
