Nigeria – In preparation for the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has given the green light to an intensive two-day training program for police personnel designated for deployment during the electoral processes. This initiative aims to enhance their capabilities in ensuring peace, order, and security during the election period.
The training program is set to take place in Bayelsa State from October 25th to 26th, 2023; Kogi State from October 27th to 28th, 2023; and Imo State from October 25th to 26th, 2023.
The primary goal of this training exercise is to equip law enforcement personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain a calm and secure electoral atmosphere. The IGP has emphasized the utmost importance of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality while strictly adhering to electoral laws and guidelines.
The Nigerian Police Force will collaborate closely with other relevant security agencies, electoral stakeholders, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, candidates, and the general public during the off-season elections. The IGP simultaneously appeals to political parties and candidates to conduct their campaigns and activities peacefully, in line with democratic principles and the rule of law.
The Inspector General of Police has assured that the Police are unwavering in their commitment to providing a secure environment for the citizens of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States to exercise their democratic rights and safeguard the success of the gubernatorial elections. He urges all residents and stakeholders to extend their full cooperation to the Police and other law enforcement agencies deployed for election duty to achieve a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
