The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom, on Wednesday rescued two children from illegal adoption.

The Head of Public Relations/Protocol, NSCDC, Akwa Ibom, Mr Ime White, told newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday that the children, Temitope Olaoluwa, 8, and Happiness Tayo, 12; were on Sunday rescued at Udua Ikpa Andem Market, Uyo.

According to him, a commercial driver was instructed to come and pick them and take them to Akpabuyo, Cross River State.

He alleged that one Mrs Iniobong Olaoluwa gave the instruction, saying she was brutal to both the former and new maids (Temitope Olaoluwa, 8 and Happiness Tayo, 12).

White explained that the driver took them to Udua Ikpa Andem Market to hand them over to a market woman when an NSCDC officer, Mr Bernard Udo, intercepted.

“On Sunday one Temitope Ayodele Olaoluwa and Happiness Tayo were picked up by one of our officers.

“The child adoption was done in conspiracy with one Idara who was formerly a maid to Mr Ayodele Olaoluwa, the father of Temitope and Happiness,” he said.

Idara was said to have left the house because of the brutal way the wife of Mr Ayodele Olaoluwa used to maltreat her.

“Idara asked the two children to come and join her at Akpabuyo Park, from where they boarded a vehicle to Udua Ikpa Andem Market in Uyo where the two children were to be given out to a market woman, before one of our officers, Mr Bernard Udo, rescued them.

“The officer rescued the children and brought them to our office. We had to contact our office in Calabar asking them to look for one Iniobong Olaoluwa, who resides at 74, Ibom Layout, Off Mariam Road, Calabar, Cross River State.

“It was not long on that Sunday the parents came to our office with pictures. We made sure we reunited the children with their parents.”
