Ilorin, Feb. 25, 2026 (NAN) The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kwara Command, has warned construction firms against the destruction of fibre-optic cables and other critical national infrastructure in the state.

The State Commandant, Bala Bodinga, gave the warning in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Shola on Wednesday, in Ilorin.

The warning was after a strategic management briefing held at the Command’s Headquarters in Ilorin.

Bodinga charged all the construction companies, contractors, developers, and excavation handlers to desist from actions that could lead to the destruction of cables in the state.

He said that protection of telecommunications infrastructure remains a matter of national security and a core mandate of the corps.

He expressed concern over the rising cases of damaged underground fibre installations resulting from negligence and failure to conduct proper utility verification before excavation.

The commandant noted that such incidents disrupt communication networks, banking services, emergency response systems, and other essential services critical to public safety and economic stability.

Bodinga said that the warning was also in line with directives from the office of the National Security Adviser on the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure nationwide.

“The Command directs that all construction and excavation works within Kwara must be preceded by proper clearance and verification of underground utilities.

“Contractors are required to liaise with relevant service providers and the NSCDC before commencement of any digging activity.

“Ignorance of the presence of fibre-optic installations will not be accepted,” he said.

Bodinga warned that any individual or corporate body found culpable of negligent or deliberate damage to critical infrastructure would face immediate arrest, investigation, and prosecution in accordance with extant laws.

He reaffirmed the corps zero-tolerance stance against vandalism and sabotage of national assets.

The commandant therefore called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the command. (NAN)
