Ogun trains health workers on vaccine management

The Ogun Primary Health Care Development Board (OGPHCDB), says its continuous development of the state health workforce would help meet the basic health needs of the people.

Dr Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Board said on Tuesday at a three-day refresher training on vaccine management for Local Immunisation Officers (LIOs) and Cold Chain Officers (CCOs) across the state.

Ogunsola said that the board was committed to capacity building programmes for healthcare workers.

“We will continue to invest in capacity building of our health workers for steady and continuous development.

“The Dapo Abiodun-led administration has invested in the wellbeing of children in the state through provision of potent vaccines.”

He advised parents and caregivers to take advantage of the various opportunities provided by government to have their children and wards vaccinated.

This, according to Ogunsola, would prevent them from spending money on preventable diseases and infections such as Tuberculosis, Measles and Hepatitis among others.

Speaking on the training proper, he explained further that the training was geared towards enhancing the skills and knowledge of health officers on current trends in vaccine management.

Ogunsola added that the training would also ensure proper management of vaccines from the point of manufacture to delivery, administration and disposal.

Also speaking, the State Cold Chain Officer, Pharm. Omotola Oguntade, stated that the training was the first phase at the state level.

He said that participants were expected to cascade the training to other health workers in both public and private facilities across the 20 local government in the state, adding that government would ensure potent vaccines were available.

NAN reports that the training is in collaboration with National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

Two of the participants, Mrs Taiwo Abosede and Mr Akinola Akinbo, appreciated the organisers.

They said that the training would help them in updating their knowledge in maintaining cold chain store and administering of vaccine to reduce the adverse effects after immunisation services.
