Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the grassroots level in Ondo State gathered on Saturday to ensure the party clinched the governorship seat in the forthcoming Nov. 16 election.
The gathering, convened by Prof. Sinmidele Odimayo, Special Adviser (SA) on Health Matters to Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was held in Irele Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Odimayo said the meeting aimed at keeping party members abreast of the programmes and policies of the Aiyedatiwa-led government, having shown enough interest in people’s welfare.
“We have come to talk to our people so that they can reciprocate by supporting the government in various laudable programmes for a progressive state.
“This government made a good distribution strategy for palliatives given by the Federal Government and ensured they were well utilised.
“He has tried his best that meaningful life is impacted in this local government area.
“Our people got the message and they have decided to support the governor for his victory in the coming election,” he said.
The APC Chairman in Irele LGA, Elder Zechariah Omoge, said since the governorship primaries of the party had come and gone, everyone should come together as one indivisible family.
Omoge said with reconciliation concluded in all the wards, the party must be victorious in the forthcoming election.
According to him, all support groups for individual aspirants before the governorship primaries have collapsed their structures into one to ensure victory for the party.
The local government party chairman urged all members to keep their voter cards, which qualified them to vote.
Assuring the party faithful of more dividends of democracy, he called on the party executives at the ward level to organise regular meetings for members and stakeholders.
Also, an APC leader, Elder Shadrak Olowojuni, emphasised the unity of the party, urging them all to shun parallel meetings in any form.
Olowojuni called on those who might still be aggrieved to bear their grievances and toe the path of resolution for the party’s victory.
In his remarks, Mr Daisi Akinrodoye, the Vice-Chairman of the Transition Committee in Irele LGA, commended the convener of the meeting for reviving party activities in the area.
Akinrodoye called on the leadership of the party at the state level to put in more effort to ensure there was no division in the party.
He advised the leadership to come up with mechanisms that would allow dividends of democracy to get to the grassroots and engage more youths and students in party activities.
Meanwhile, APC Women Leader in Irele LGA, Chief Titi Omosowo, observed that the party appeared too cold in the LGA.
She, however, called on the leadership at the state level to cater more for the women in the party because of their greater population and larger voting strength.
Lending the voice of the youth, the Youth Leader in the LGA, Comrade Sunday Omojuwa, called for unity of purpose, saying that only a united party would win the forthcoming election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who defected to APC, were received at the event. (NAN)
