One killed, heavy shooting persists as Area Boys clash in Lagos

PMFOne person has been shot dead in a clash between factions of street urchins, popularly known as Area Boys, in Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The clash was said to have started on Wednesday evening.

As at press time on Thursday morning, it had not abated.

The intervention of the police was said to have brought only temporary relieve to the area.

It was learnt that the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who was in Abuja for a Security Summit, had to dash back to town to oversee the containment of the clash.

Owoseni was said to have deployed eight patrol vans and Armoured Personnel Carriers to the area on Wednesday night.

This led to a stop of the fight.

Thinking that the clash had been contained, the policemen left on Thursday morning.

However, hardly had the policemen departed than the street urchins resumed hostilities.

As at press time, the fight was still on, with gunshots all over the area.

Shops, houses and vehicles have been vandalised as the clash continues.
