Otu flags-off third free medical outreach in Akamkpa
Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, wife of the governor of Cross River, flagged off the third edition of her free medical outreach in Akamkpa Local Government (LGA) on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the free medical outreach is in partnership with Faith Care Outreach.
Speaking at the event, which was one of the activities to mark her 60th birthday, Otu reminded all present of the successes recorded in the previous medical outreaches.
She noted the transformative power of collective action while revealing data recorded in previous editions.
According to her, the data harvested from the initiative shows that in the Central Senatorial District, where the outreach was previously held, they had 1,907 general consultations.
“We had 122 surgeries, 105 laboratory investigations, 96 dental care procedures, and 341 eye services rendered.
“These underscore the profound impact we have had on the lives of our people.
“As we celebrate my diamond jubilee birthday, I am humbled to stand before you as a humanity champion whose heart beats for the people.
“It is in this spirit of compassion and dedication that we are organising this edition of the free medical outreach.
“Health is not merely a privilege but a fundamental human right, and it is incumbent upon us to ensure its accessibility to all,” Mrs. Otu said.
She appealed for the commitment of all to fostering a healthier and more prosperous society by investing in the health and well-being of the people of Cross River.
Also speaking at the flag-off, Obol Agbor Ewa Ebane, Paramount Ruler of Akamkpa, thanked the wife of the governor for bringing the outreach to the community.
“We, the Akamkpa people, will not forget this show of sincere love for our community. I had to be here in person to ensure I saw it for myself, and I have witnessed it today. God bless you,” he said.
Similarly, Dr. Henry Ayuk, the State Commissioner for Health, extolled the first lady, noting that there was a new dawn in the state.
Ayuk urged the people to support the present administration in the state, as more interventions were on the way. (NAN)
