Ibadan, Feb. 13, 2026 (NAN) Hon. Okebukola Oyedapo-Akinpelu, a former labour Party (LP) chairmanship candidate, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Oyedapo-Akinpelu, who contested the last local council election with LP, made the official move alongside her supporters in Ibadan on Friday.
Addressing party faithful who thronged the welcome ceremony, Oyedapo-Akinpelu said that her decision to align with ADC was based on consultations with the party and her supporters’ demand.
She described ADC as a party with good ideology and laudable programmes that would liberate the masses from poverty.
According to her, ADC has the capacity to break the continuous dominance of age-long politicians who have turned politics into their private business.
Oyedapo-Akinpelu described the youths as the strength of the party, urging them to participate actively and work hard to rescue their future from being mortgaged.
She urged every unregistered citizen, 18 years and above, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
She further charged the electorate not to sell their voter cards or share vital information with desperate politicians.
Oyedapo-Akinpelu urged her fellow women to participate in politics, thus being involved in policy formulation that would positively impact the entire citizenry.
“It is time for women to rise to the responsibility of promoting good governance in Nigeria.
“Politics should not be seen as a difficult terrain for women. We need to come out of the cage, contribute meaningfully with dignity, and claim our rightful positions,” she said.
The ADC Chairman in Oluyole, Comrade Samson Adekunle, said her decision to team up with ADC was a sign of a better future for the party and the people of Oluyole.
He described Oyedapo-Akinpelu as a thoroughbred grassroots politician whose contributions to the local government’s advancement and liberation could not be taken for granted.
Adekunle emphasised the need for youths and women to make judicious use of opportunities created by the ADC platform to redefine the destiny of current and future generations.
He noted that ADC had allocated a good quota for the party’s youth, women, and elders to thrive.
He further stated that the party had been supporting and working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the smooth running of the CVR in the local government.
Similarly, the ADC Women Leader in Oluyole LG, Princess Remi Daramola, said the name of Oyedapo-Akinpelu reverberates in the local government’s politics due to her good works and character.
She urged every member to work together in love, particularly at the ward level, noting that the party’s success lies in continuous grassroots mobilisation and teamwork.
The event also featured goodwill messages from the party’s elders, dignitaries, youths, and other party faithful. (NAN)
