Mr. Olayinka Subair, Pfizer Nigeria’s Country Manager and Cluster Lead, West Africa, says patient advocacy within the pharmaceutical work is critical to ensure safety of patients’ lives.
Subair made this known in a statement by Mrs. Oluwayemisi Mafe, Pfizer Corporate Affairs and Communications Lead, West Africa, on Monday in Lagos.
According to him, Pfizer, a biopharmaceutical company, deploys resources to bring treatments that extend and improve the lives of patients.
He said the company consistently sought to collaborate with stakeholders to support and expand access to reliable and affordable healthcare in global communities.
“Patients in Focus is an opportunity for Pfizer to further their ongoing commitment to patients by ensuring that all Pfizer employees have the knowledge and resources to incorporate patient voices into their work.
“This effort, led by the Global Patient Advocacy Team, brings Pfizer one step closer in the goal of being the most patient-centric company and to achieve health equity,” he said.
Subair said that in Nigeria, the company would demonstrate its commitment to patients through an interactive discussion on healthcare disparities and other barriers to care.
The country manager said that the company launched a global “Patients in Focus” event between Oct. 4 and Oct. 8 to recognize the influence patients have on its work.
“We are made up of many local markets and differing functions, but our purpose at Pfizer is global: to develop breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.
“For our work to be meaningful, every function of Pfizer needs to understand the importance of engaging patients, caregivers and advocates in our work.
“Patients in Focus week will showcase where we have made an impact on patients’ lives; empower colleagues to learn from each other and continue putting the patient first in everything we do,” Subair said.
He said that the week would provide a platform for sharing global success stories and best practices that had empowered and inspired them.
”It will also highlight the benefit of global resources such as the Global Patient Advocacy team and its new Patient Centricity Hub,” Subair said.
He said that discussants at the panel include: Dr. Bello Abubakar, Consultant Oncologist and President, African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and Ms MaryGloria Orji, Network of People Impacted By Cancer In Nigeria (NePICiN). (NAN)
