The national Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim-Olaniyan, has called on youths and women to register as members of PCRC to support the policing of the country.
Ibrahim-Olaniyan made the call at the ongoing National Youths and Women Seminar on Tuesday in Abuja.
The seminar was organised by the National Youth and Women Committee of the PCRC.
The theme of the seminar is “PCRC at 40, Community Policing at its Best” has “Emerging Leaders: Impacts on Socio-Economic and National Security as its topic.
The chairman said the seminar was organised upon the realisation that youths and women were crucial in the policing of any society.
“When we talk about security in any society, youths and women are very important and the PCRC under my leadership has realised.
“We are currently, pushing most of the responsibilities to the youths and women in PCRC because they are the most important segment of the society.
“The idea is to make them understand that they have crucial responsibility in the security of the country,” he said.
He said the involvement of youths and women in the activities of PCRC, was bringing them closer to the Nigeria Police to have a better understanding of police operations.
According to him, the idea is for women to see police officers as their biological children, and for the youths to understand that police are their friends and family members.
He said youths and women have access to information needed by the police to function effectively.
“Policing any country has gone beyond carrying arms and ammunition. Reliance on information is key to a responsible policing.
“The Nigeria Police and the leadership of PCRC has realised this and have keyed into it,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Junaid Olatunji, the National Youth Coordinator of PCRC, said the seminar was part of activities lined up for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of PCRC.
He said the seminar was organised to use the PCRC platform to reduce the increasing level of crimes in the society using youths and women. (NAN)
