The national headquarters of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has commended David Okunato, the Osi of Akure, Ondo State, for donating 2.6 meters of land to the police.
The commendation is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Deputy National Secretary of the committee, Amb. Austen Young.
The statement was issued preparatory to the end-of-year and award-giving ceremony of the PCRC scheduled for Wednesday in Abuja.
“Okunato also single-handedly built a 12-room administrative block to ensure that one of the new zonal commands created in 2020, Zone 17, begins operations successfully,’’ the statement added.
Okunato will be conferred with the PCRC’s Star Award at the event, alongside other award recipients.
They are governors of Kano, Ogun and Anambra states, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Chief Dapo Abiodun and Mr. Willie Obiano, respectively, and the wife of Edo governor, Mrs. Besty Obaseki.
Other award recipients are Dangote and Rochas Okorocha Foundations.
According to the statement, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Austin Iwar, will present the Guest Lecture entitled: “The value of police-community partnership in community-oriented policing.’’
The statement indicated the occasion would be chaired by a former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Musiliu Smith, who is also the Chairman, Police Service Commission.
“This is the first PCRC award at the national level in 37 years and members of the public selected for the awards.
“This reflects the desire of the PCRC for improved living conditions of the populace, security, and police-community integration,’’ it added. (NAN)
