The National Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan congratulatory message is contained in statement on Wednesday in Abuja, by Ms Olayemi Esan, the Director, Global Communications and Media Relations.
Olaniyan said that the PCRC welcomed and congratulated the newly appointed Acting I-G, adding that his over three decades of experience in policing, intelligence, crime control, and security management would further strengthen the Nigeria Police Force.
“We are confident that the new Acting I-G will sustain ongoing reforms, deepen intelligence-driven policing, and expand community partnerships in line with global best practices
“The appointment is a significant encouragement and a form of recognition for the PCRC’s sustained contributions to community policing and grassroots intelligence,” Olaniyan said.
He commended the outgoing I-G, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, for his exceptional leadership, intelligence, capacity, and profound sense of duty as he exits the service.
He described Egbetokun’s appointment on June 19, 2023, as the 22nd indigenous I-G as a well-deserved and strategic choice.
The PCRC boss said Egbetokun’s extensive professional background across various operational and administrative roles within the Nigeria Police Force clearly demonstrated that he was a round peg in a round hole.
He added that the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Egbetokun recorded significant security gains and institutional reforms.
According to him, the Force, under the leadership of Egbetokun adopted three strategic policing approaches, confrontation, suppression, and accommodation to address security challenges.
“Egbetokun prioritised intelligence-led policing, strengthened collaboration with the military and other security agencies, and improved coordinated responses to terrorism, insurgency, violent crimes, and communal conflicts across the country,” he said.
Olaniyan further said that the establishment of the Police Special Intervention Squad was a major milestone of Egbetokun’s administration.
According to him, the squad adopted a zero-tolerance approach to armed robbery, kidnapping, and related crimes.
The PCRC boss commended the outgoing I-G for reducing crime through arrests and prosecution of suspects, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and successful rescue of numerous kidnap victims in joint operations with other security agencies. (NAN)
