PDP Assembly candidate gets bail after 4 months in Edo

pdp.fw_A Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate for Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Nosa Adams, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court after spending four months in prison custody.

Adams, who got a bail yesterday in Benin, was remanded in prison custody on November 5th, 2014 by an Egor Magistrate Court over alleged attempted murder.

Despite being in prison at the period, Adams won the PDP party primaries in prison custody.

He was arraigned for allegedly shooting three persons at Aunty Maria Primary School during the conduct of ward congresses of the PDP.

Those allegedly shot by Adams are Ikponmwosa Omoregbe, Victor Omotosor and Eloghosa John.

His bail yesterday came following a Fundamental Right application filed by his Counsel, Kingsley Obamogie.

Obamogie urged the court to invoke the doctrine of necessity to grant his client bail and tendered medical report on Adams state of health.

He argued that ground continued detention of his client infringed on his fundamental rights.

Counsel to the state government, Oluwole Iyamu, who opposed the bail application said the suspect was remanded by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Oluwole said the application ought to have been filed at the State High Court instead of a Federal Court.

Presiding judge, Justice A.M Liman granted the suspect bail based on argument that the suspect has been in prison custody for almost four months.

Justice Liman granted the bail on N2m and two sureties who must be property owners in the state.
